About This Course

The built environment sector plays a critical role in Singapore's transition towards a low-carbon and resource-efficient economy. Extending the service life of existing buildings and infrastructure through effective inspection, maintenance, repair and rehabilitation is increasingly recognized as a sustainable alternative to demolition and reconstruction, helping to reduce embodied carbon, conserve resources and minimize construction waste.
This course provides participants with practical knowledge and industry-relevant skills in the assessment, diagnosis, repair and strengthening of reinforced concrete structures. The course covers concrete technology, common concrete defects and deterioration mechanisms, the effects of fire on concrete, building surveys and condition assessments, as well as repair and strengthening techniques used in practice.
Through real-world case studies, including HDB internal flat repair projects, and demonstrations of inspection equipment and diagnostic tools, participants will gain insights into sustainable asset management approaches that improve structural durability, enhance building resilience and support lifecycle extension of built assets.
Aligned with the SkillsFuture Series – Green Economy as the primary economic growth pillar, this training course on “Inspection & Repair of Concrete Structures” equips professionals with competencies that contribute to sustainable building maintenance, resource efficiency and the long-term performance of the built environment:
• The course supports Singapore's Green Economy transition by developing workforce capabilities in sustainable infrastructure maintenance, asset life extension and resource-efficient building management.
• Through competency development in inspection, diagnosis, preventive maintenance and repair of reinforced concrete structures, the course contributes to decarbonization by reducing embodied carbon associated with demolition and reconstruction activities.

What You'll Learn

Participants will gain an understanding of concrete technology, common concrete defects and deterioration mechanisms and the effects of fire and environmental exposure on reinforced concrete structures.
The course will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to conduct building condition surveys and assessments, utilize inspection equipment and diagnostic tools to identify defects and structural issues, and evaluate appropriate repair, rehabilitation and strengthening solutions.
Through practical demonstrations and real-world case studies, participants will learn how sustainable maintenance and asset management practices can improve structural durability, extend the service life of buildings, reduce construction waste and material consumption and contribute to a more resource-efficient and resilient built environment.
