About This Course
1.3 The Specialist Diploma in Air-Conditioning & Energy Sustainability focuses on air-conditioning system design, building energy performance, and energy management applied across the Engineering Consultancy & Design Track and Facilities Management Track within the Built Environment sector. It equips Assistant Mechanical Engineers, Technical Executives (Mechanical Engineering), Building Executives, Facilities Executives, Property Executives, and Technical Executives with the competencies in air-conditioning system, Green Mark, energy management & audit, information and energy modelling of facility and integrated building management system. These capabilities enable learners to contribute to sustainable facility operations, improve building performance, and support industry practices and compliance standards.
What You'll Learn
• Students will be able to apply refrigeration principles, psychrometry, and heat load calculations to analyse and design air-conditioning systems, including cleanroom applications. They will also perform pipe sizing and pressure loss calculations to support accurate and efficient ACMV system design.
• Students will be able to apply Green Mark requirements, assess building energy consumption, and evaluate energy efficiency in relation to building code compliance and energy use intensity. They will also perform OSE calculations, optimise chilled water systems, and conduct energy auditing and efficiency optimisation to enhance building performance and sustainability.
• Students will be able to perform energy modelling to analyse solar impact, thermal loading, and HVAC system performance for buildings. They will also apply Building Information Modelling (BIM) tool to develop and coordinate ACMV system layouts and supporting data-driven design.
• Students will be able to design and evaluate integrated Building Management System (BMS) architectures, apply smart field devices, and assess Green Mark requirements related to BMS for energy-efficient building operations. They will also configure high-level and low-level interfaces using Schneider EcoStruxure software, analyse case studies of BMS systems, and apply advanced communication protocols to support smart facility management and system optimisation.
Entry Requirements
Diploma Qualifications:
Applicants need to have a minimum diploma qualification in mechanical engineering, precision engineering or industry engineering from recognized institutions.
Individuals with a minimum diploma qualification in other engineering fields other than mechanical engineering, but with three years of relevant working experience in ACMV/ cleanroom facility/ facility management/ ESD and building services industry will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be subjected to interviews or tests before they can be considered for enrolment.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least five (5) years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted will have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.
