Concrete Construction Special Inspector
About This Course
Reducing the environmental impact of the built environment requires not only sustainable design and materials, but also high-quality construction practices that maximize the service life of buildings and infrastructure.
Defects, rework and premature deterioration can lead to unnecessary material consumption, increased embodied carbon and additional maintenance or reconstruction activities throughout an asset's lifecycle.
This course prepares participants with the knowledge and competencies required for concrete construction inspection, covering pre-placement, placement and post-placement activities in accordance with internationally recognized industry standards and codes.
Participants will develop an understanding of concrete materials, production, placement methods, quality control procedures, inspection practices, construction tolerances, curing requirements and documentation processes.
Through practical examples and plan-reading exercises, participants will learn how to verify compliance with project specifications, identify potential quality issues, and maintain accurate inspection records. Emphasis is placed on defect prevention, construction quality and durability assurance, which are critical to reducing rework, minimizing material wastage and supporting the long-term performance of concrete structures.
Aligned with the SkillsFuture Series – Green Economy as the primary economic growth pillar, this training course on “Concrete Construction Special Inspector” supports the development of competencies that contribute to resource-efficient construction, reduction of embodied carbon associated with defects and rework, improved asset durability; and enhanced lifecycle sustainability of buildings and infrastructure.
What You'll Learn
The course covers inspection principles, reporting practices, quality assurance concepts, and the testing, handling and storage of construction materials. Participants will gain an understanding of concrete fundamentals, including mixture proportioning, batching and mixing processes, as well as inspection requirements before, during and after concreting operations.
Participants will also be introduced to inspection considerations for slabs, pavements, bridge decks, architectural concrete, special concreting methods, precast and prestressed concrete, as well as grout, mortar and stucco applications. By the end of the course, participants will be able to interpret specifications and test results; identify quality issues; verify compliance with standards; and maintain accurate inspection records to support quality construction and long-term asset performance.
