Advanced Chemical Instrumentation
About This Course
This course is designed to equip learners with practical expertise and theoretical knowledge of key chemical analysis instruments, including chromatographs, spectrometers, and advanced microscopes. Through immersive hands-on training and lectures, learners will gain vital skills in instrument operation, method development, and troubleshooting—competencies essential for modern laboratory research and industry applications. This micro-credential addresses the growing demand for professionals adept at using advanced instrumentation in fields such as pharmaceuticals, materials science, and environmental analysis. Learners will be more employable and/or better positioned for job progression, in their ability to meet industry needs for technically skilled personnel and research innovators.
As this micro-credential course is only offered in the FlexiMasters in Chemical Sciences and Instrumentation programme, learners are required to enrol in and complete all required courses within this programme.
What You'll Learn
• Explain and apply the key principles, instrumentation, and applications of major chromatographic methods, including liquid and gas chromatography.
• Describe and interpret data including spectra, chromatograms, and microscopic images, to draw meaningful scientific conclusions.
• Explain the principles behind structural techniques such as X‑ray diffraction and bioanalytical approaches for Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA), peptides, and biomolecules, and interpret the resulting images, spectra, and chromatograms.
• Apply appropriate analytical techniques to the study of chemical and biological samples, including DNA, peptides, and other biomolecules.
Entry Requirements
No pre-requisites are needed to enroll in the individual courses.
A minimum of two years of relevant working experience is preferred but not required.
Note: Shortlisting will be conducted by the School.
