Specialist Certificate in Electrical System and Energy Management (Classroom, Synchronous & Asynchronous)
About This Course
This micro-credential provides participants with comprehensive competencies to design, operate, and manage electrical systems and energy solutions in modern buildings and data centres. It prepares for roles such as Electrical System Engineers, Energy Managers, and Automation Specialists, aligning with the Skills Framework for Energy and Power.
The programme emphasises critical skills in electrical system design, sustainable energy integration, and intelligent automation, with a strong focus on energy efficiency, system reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
Participants will engage in technical, economic, and environmental assessments of renewable energy deployment and cutting-edge automation technologies, including Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and digital twins. By completing this micro-credential, participants will be equipped to optimise electrical systems and energy management for sustainable, smart building operations through hands-on training and real-world simulations.
What You'll Learn
- Apply fundamental electrical engineering principles to analyse alternating current (AC) circuits, transformers, generators, motors, and power distribution systems.
- Design a building electrical installation system by applying electrical installation requirements, including load estimation, cable sizing, protection selection, switchboard arrangement, standby supply, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) provision, and relevant Singapore Standard SS638: Code of Practice for Electrical Installations (SS638) requirements.
- Communicate and justify an integrated electrical system design through technical documentation, calculations, schematic diagrams, and oral presentation.
Module: EPE3311M Sustainable Generation and Integration
- Analyse the physical and technical principles underlying renewable and low-carbon energy generation systems to assess their efficiency, feasibility, and environmental impact.
- Analyse the technical, economic, and environmental implications of deploying renewable and alternative energy systems to address electricity needs.
- Assess the integration of renewable resources into the power grid by analysing technical, economic, and environmental considerations, and illustrate their application in smart grid solutions.
- Work on integrated project design, prepare technical reports and deliver presentation on sustainable power grids considering their technical, economic and environmental aspects.
Module: SBE3115M Automation and Control in Building
- Describe the framework and process of an intelligent building and its system configurations in terms of sub-system (e.g. Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), lighting) and whole building.
- Design and simulate a fundamental intelligent system based on the requirements via simulation tools.
- Evaluate the value proposition, benefits, and sociotechnical issues behind the building intelligence.
