About This Course
The Specialist Diploma in Data Science (Predictive Analytics) is a one-year programme that:
• Provides training on essential statistical concepts, data preparation techniques, and programming skills foundational to data science roles.
• Equips students with advanced competencies in statistical modelling and predictive analytics to perform data analysis, build and deploy predictive models, and derive actionable insights from complex data.
• Develops an understanding of how predictive analytics is applied in real-world industry contexts across sectors.
In addition to core analytical techniques, the programme exposes learners to how Generative AI (Gen AI) tools and techniques can augment data analytics workflows, support feature engineering and model development, and improve productivity and decision-making in real-world predictive analytics applications.
The programme is designed for working adults and professionals seeking to advance their careers in today’s data-driven economy through specialised training in statistical modelling and predictive techniques. Learners will acquire the skillsets to apply predictive analytics techniques effectively in the workplace. They will be equipped with the knowledge to perform data preparation, apply statistical and machine learning methods, and develop predictive models to uncover trends and patterns from data. Graduates will be prepared to take on job roles aligned to the Infocomm Technology Skills Framework, such as Data Analyst / Associate Data Engineer, across a wide range of industries including healthcare, finance, retail and e-commerce, telecommunications, manufacturing, etc.
What You'll Learn
• Acquire strong foundational knowledge in statistics, data preparation, and programming skills essential for data science and predictive analytics work, utilising Generative AI tools to enhance productivity and support the mastery of foundational concepts.
• Develop specialised competencies in statistical and machine learning techniques to build, validate, and evaluate predictive models, integrating the responsible use of Generative AI as an analytical co-pilot to augment the full analytics workflow, including feature engineering and model development.
• Gain practical experience in handling real-world datasets within AI-enabled environments, enabling them to translate analytical insights into data-driven decisions that support organisational strategy while maintaining the statistical reasoning and analytical judgement necessary to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
Entry Requirements
Applicant must satisfy at least one of the following entry requirements:
(i) An Engineering/ IT diploma or degree from a recognised polytechnic* or university** in Singapore
(ii) Any other diploma or degree from a recognised polytechnic* or university** in Singapore and possess a Pass grade in either GCE ‘O’ level Mathematics or a Mathematics subject at diploma level.
* NYP, NP, RP, SP, or TP
** NTU, NUS, SIT, SMU, SUSS, or SUTD (candidates with degrees from other uni are considered on a case-by-case basis)
(iii) Any other tracks of Specialist Diploma in Data Science offered by Singapore Polytechnic (candidates may exempt PDC1 modules and directly enrol for PDC2 modules)
Applicants with relevant work experience in a data-related or analytical role will be considered on case-by-case basis, with consideration of supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test.
