AI in Education: Redesigning Curriculum and Assessment (Classroom & Asynchronous e-learning)
About This Course
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping graduate expectations across every sector. For post-secondary educators, the question is no longer whether to respond — it is how to do so in a way that is deliberate, principled, and sustainable.
This 20-hour course equips learners to review and redesign their courses or modules for the AI era. Working on their own course or module throughout, learners will use the 3As Framework (Anchor, Augment, Advance) to make principled decisions about which competencies students must develop independently of AI, which they should learn to perform with AI, and where AI can open up higher-level possibilities. These decisions then drive a coherent redesign of learning outcomes, assessments, and teaching strategies.
The course takes a practitioner-first approach. Learners come with their own course or module and leave with a revised set of deliverables: updated learning outcomes, a redesigned assessment plan and major assessment brief, revised rubrics, a teaching and learning plan, and a communication plan for students and colleagues. AI tools are used throughout the redesign process itself, modelling the same human-AI collaboration learners will ask of their students.
Delivered through a blend of asynchronous e-learning and structured classroom sessions, the course builds on peer discussion and collaborative feedback. No prior experience with GenAI tools is assumed. What learners do bring is a course or module they teach and a willingness to rethink how it is designed.
What You'll Learn
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
1.Review and refine learning outcomes to reflect the balance of human and AI-augmented competencies expected of graduates entering an AI-enabled workplace
2.Redesign a course/module assessment plan to assess both human capabilities and GenAI-augmented skills, ensuring alignment with revised learning outcomes
3.Redesign a major assessment task and its rubrics so that criteria capture human judgement and reasoning, are robust against inappropriate AI use, and credibly assess human-AI collaboration where intended
4.Design teaching and learning activities (both in-class and out-of-class) that progressively build students' Anchor and Augment competencies using the 3As Framework.
5.Produce a revised course/module document that integrates the updated learning outcomes, assessment plans, briefs, rubrics, and teaching plans, ready for institutional review and implementation.
6.Apply GenAI-enabled tools to systematically support curriculum, assessment, and instructional redesign using the 3As Framework, while exercising professional judgment and modeling responsible AI use.
Entry Requirements
This course is designed for post-secondary educators. Basic Information Technology (IT) literacy and experience in education preferred. Prior experience with GenAI tools is not required.
