About This Course

Electrical energy is a key part of daily business and life. Losses, heat generation, cooling, and energy efficiency are essential part of any electrical system. With the advances in research and development including new design of industry products, there is a trend on loss reduction to enhance energy efficiency, reduce cooling requirement, and result into energy saving. This course aims to provide participants with the basic knowledge of energy consumption in electrical form through real-time examples of various domestic and industrial applications. Concepts and mathematical explanation of the power losses, energy efficiency, life cycle costs, heat generation, thermal stability, and cooling will be introduced in this course. Adoption of new technologies and their operation for reduced power losses through design will be explained with some examples. Motor drive systems cover the major portion of the domestic and industry applications and consumes the major portion of the electrical energy. Roles of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), power electronics, motor drives, modulation and control, and magnetics will be overviewed. Case studies of fan, pump, compressor, air-conditioner, variable speed drives, and lighting load will be covered in this course. This course will educate the engineers for the sustainable design towards improving energy efficiency.
