What You'll Learn
This 2-day course helps SMEs take a practical business approach to carbon accounting, cost resilience and business transformation. Participants will learn how carbon accounting supports customer requirements, tender readiness, reporting expectations and business resilience, and how these can be translated into practical workplace actions.
The course introduces the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and guides participants to identify Scope 1, Scope 2 and selected Scope 3 emission sources relevant to SME operations. Participants will use a digital platform to input company-level Scope 1 and Scope 2 activity data and review a basic emissions baseline. Building on the baseline, they will discuss data readiness, data gaps, emissions-reduction areas, and simple short-term reduction targets or improvement goals.
Participants will also explore practical decarbonisation and emissions mitigation approaches based on operational suitability, cost impact, feasibility and business relevance. To support implementation, they will be introduced to workforce development and job redesign approaches, including the Job Redesign Evaluation Tool (JRET) and an on-the-job (OJT) training framework. Through guided activities, participants will develop a workplace implementation plan covering priority actions, owners, milestones, workforce needs, barriers, support required and intended business outcomes.
This course is suitable for SME business owners, managers, supervisors, HR personnel, operations staff and employees involved in carbon accounting, reporting, procurement, operations improvement, workforce development or sustainability-related business transformation.
