Mental Wellness in Workplace
About This Course
Mental Wellness in the Workplace equips HR practitioners, managers, supervisors, and safety officers with practical competencies to strengthen psychological safety, organisational resilience, and workplace culture. As psychosocial risks increasingly affect performance, engagement, and retention, organisations require structured systems to support employee well-being.
This course develops four core competencies: planning and managing workspaces to reduce stressors, strengthening HR systems that support well-being, building a Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) culture that includes mental health risk detection, and applying appropriate counselling assessment techniques for early identification and referral. Learners will gain actionable tools to analyse workplace environments, improve policies, manage psychosocial hazards, and conduct supportive conversations within professional boundaries.
The programme is highly relevant across industries where leaders are responsible for people management, compliance, and culture-building. With growing regulatory expectations and organisational focus on employee well-being, these competencies enhance professional credibility and readiness for expanded roles in HR, WSH, organisational development, and leadership. Learners can apply these skills to improve team performance, reduce risk exposure, and contribute to sustainable workplace practices, strengthening both organisational outcomes and their own career progression opportunities.
What You'll Learn
Establish and manage effective and efficient human resource management systems that support employee well-being, resilience and harmonious working relationships. Assess HR policies covering leave, flexible work and workload management; integrate wellness into performance management and KPIs; and strengthen grievance handling, conflict management, employee feedback, onboarding and employee development systems.
Develop capabilities to create and maintain a Workplace Safety and Health culture based on a common set of attitudes, behaviours and competencies. Analyse existing WSH culture, strengthen shared attitudes and safe behaviours, develop workplace competencies supporting psychological safety, and reinforce the responsibilities of leaders, HR, supervisors and employees. Identify psychosocial risks and behavioural indicators, establish early mental health risk detection practices, and align WSH culture management with organisational values and workplace practices.
Apply appropriate counselling assessment methods and tools to identify employee issues and workplace distress. Conduct effective intake conversations, build rapport, define issues and goals, and identify signs of stress, burnout, anxiety and conflict.
