About This Course

Wild Moves offers a structured series of movement classes and practical workshops grounded in the disciplines of physical theatre, somatic practice, and choreographic research. Participants are guided through a rigorous yet accessible curriculum that positions movement as both a mode of creative inquiry and a framework for self-directed artistic development.

Drawing on established methodologies in performance studies and embodied practice, each session combines practical exercises, analytical case studies, and facilitated reflective discussions. Participants are supported in developing critical awareness of how the body generates, communicates, and transforms meaning in performance contexts. The programme is designed to accommodate a broad range of experience levels, from emerging practitioners to established performers seeking to deepen their practice. By the end of the course, participants will have cultivated a transferable toolkit of physical theatre and choreographic strategies, alongside the creative habits and reflective capacities essential to sustained artistic practice.

What You'll Learn

In this term, participants will deepen their choreographic thinking and expand their movement vocabulary through the study of influential makers and methods.

Participants will get to know the work of renowned choreographers such as Jonathan Burrows, who offers tools to navigate the overwhelming choices faced by choreographers; Mary Overlie, who applies Horizontal (deconstructive) and Vertical (integrative) practices for performance-making; Doris Humphrey, who posits the choreographer as a maker of meanings in establishing the foundations of choreographic composition; and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, whose seminal book, A Choreographers Score, offers insights into investigating music, mathematics, geometry, and the architecture of movement.

In a special session, guest lecturer Dr. Stephanie Burridge will introduce The Choreographic Notebook a hands-on approach to generating ideas, applying choreographic tools, and documenting creative process through scoring and reflection.
