Elder Care: Managing Safe Movement, Transportation, and Handover Protocols
About This Course
This is an intensive, professional-grade training course designed strictly for professional care personnel—including housekeeping matrons, independent caregivers, agency caregivers, caregivers in aged homes and community settings, and professional patient/medical appointment escorts who support elderly clients travelling to healthcare appointments. This course is explicitly not intended for informal or family caregivers who do not have professional prehospital transport, documentation, or formal handover responsibilities. The program equips professional learners with the practical competencies to assess pre-transport safety requirements, conduct safe physical transfers, utilize mobility equipment securely, and perform structured handovers using professional reporting frameworks (e.g., SBAR) within community settings.
This course directly addresses Singapore's critical eldercare manpower demands and safety needs driven by an aging demographic where 20.7% of citizens are aged 65 and above, and 1 in 3 seniors fall annually, with falls accounting for 40% of injury-related deaths. Professional caregivers face significant performance gaps in safe manual handling, environmental hazard mitigation, and structured care transitions during home-to-vehicle movement. Targeting competencies in client transfers, prehospital transportation, and handover protocols—this curriculum supports the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) "aging-in-place" networks and the Action Plan for Successful Ageing. By upskilling practitioners with safe movement, transportation safety, and formalised handover protocols, the program reduces preventable transfer injuries and ensures seamless continuity of care.
