Generative AI Literacy for Adaptive Teaching Practice
About This Course
This foundational course helps participants build the GenAI knowledge and judgement needed to use AI confidently and responsibly in education. Participants will learn what GenAI is, how it works, what it can and cannot do, and how it is changing teaching and educational practice.
The course is organised around three key questions:
1. What can GenAI do well, and where are its limits?
2. How can I use GenAI effectively and responsibly in my teaching practice?
3. How should I adapt as GenAI tools and capabilities continue to change?
Participants will explore practical uses of GenAI, learn how to write and refine prompts, and evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, relevance, bias, appropriateness, and risk. They will also consider when GenAI should or should not be used, with attention to privacy, transparency, academic integrity, over-reliance, and human oversight.
Through practical activities, participants will develop the confidence and adaptability to assess new AI capabilities, update their teaching practices, and continue learning as GenAI evolves.
What You'll Learn
At the end of this course, participants should be able to:
• Describe the basic concepts, capabilities, and limitations of generative AI and explain how GenAI developments may affect teaching practice and the role of educators.
• Explain current and emerging uses of GenAI in everyday teaching tasks, including their benefits, limitations, and potential risks.
• Discuss how continuous learning, critical evaluation, and teacher judgement can help educators adapt their teaching practice as GenAI technologies evolve.
B. Key Skills (Practical Component)
At the end of this course, participants should be able to:
• Apply prompting and refinement strategies to produce and improve AI-supported outputs for different teaching tasks.
• Evaluate AI-generated outputs and GenAI capabilities to determine their suitability, limitations, risks, and appropriate use in teaching.
• Develop responsible approaches for using and adapting to GenAI tools in teaching while maintaining teacher judgement, learner agency, and appropriate human oversight.
