Advanced Solar PV System Design and Performance Analysis with Data
About This Course
Advanced Solar PV System Design and Performance Analysis with Data is a 5-day intensive course developed in conjunction with Singapore Polytechnic which aims to equip solar professionals with the knowledge and practical skills to evaluate, diagnose and improve the performance of grid-connected photovoltaic systems.
Participants establish expected system behaviour using PVSyst and Helioscope before progressing to advanced diagnostic techniques, including I‑V curve analysis, thermographic inspection and performance-loss evaluation.
Through realistic case studies and hands-on activities, participants learn to distinguish assumptions from evidence, assess system behaviour, investigate underperformance and develop evidence-based recommendations.
The programme bridges expected and actual system performance, enabling learners to make informed engineering and asset-management decisions across the operational lifecycle of a solar PV asset
What You'll Learn
• Evaluate expected solar PV system performance using industry-standard simulation tools, engineering assumptions and performance metrics.
• Assess differences between expected and actual solar PV system performance using operational and performance data to identify probable causes of underperformance.
• Interpret electrical diagnostic evidence to identify PV system faults, determine probable fault mechanisms and evaluate their operational significance.
• Interpret thermal, operational and performance evidence to diagnose PV system issues and determine opportunities for performance improvement.
• Integrate simulation outputs, diagnostic findings and operational evidence to develop and justify technical recommendations that support informed solar PV engineering and asset-management decisions.
Entry Requirements
Learners are expected to demonstrate a combination of the following:
• Able to listen, speak, read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills System (ESS) Level 6.
• Able to process numerical, graphical and technical information at a proficiency level equivalent to ESS Level 6.
• Possess basic computer literacy, including the ability to navigate software applications, manage digital files and interpret information presented in spreadsheets, charts and technical reports.
• Possess a degree or higher qualification in engineering, electrical engineering, renewable energy, facilities management or a related technical discipline.
