KONG HWA SCHOOL

350 GUILLEMARD ROAD

Singapore 399772

Introduction

Kong Hwa School is a government-aided Special Assistance Plan (SAP) school with a distinguished history, founded by the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan. The school's vision is to be a bicultural and values-centred institution of distinction, guided by its motto of "Sincerity and Perseverance."

As a SAP school, Kong Hwa provides an immersive environment for the learning of both English and Chinese, fostering a deep appreciation for both cultures. Its holistic curriculum is enhanced by an Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in computational thinking and a Learning for Life Programme (LLP) in the arts. These programmes aim to develop well-rounded individuals with a strong moral character and a global outlook.

A Brief Historical Background

Founded in 1953 by the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan, Kong Hwa School was established to meet the urgent need for education after the Japanese Occupation. The school was built on land donated by Mr Tan Lark Sye and with a significant donation from Mr Lee Kong Chian, after whom the school was initially named 'Kong Chian School'. It became a government-aided school in 1957.
