About This Course
This is a 4-year direct Honours degree programme offered jointly by the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences with participation from Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law, School of Design and Environment, NUS Business School, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. NUS recognises that the environmental issues that are presented to the world today are global, complex and interconnected. There is a compelling need for new educational models such as the BES to nurture graduates who can think broadly and deeply so as to effectively address the societal and scientific needs for understanding complex environmental issues.
What You'll Learn
Experience integrated modules specially designed for the Environmental Studies programme. These modules emphasise on small-group discussions, case studies, fireside chats with key environmental luminaries, policy makers and governmental CEOs, experiential learning through field trip/courses, internships and research projects etc. Examples of such modules are ENV1101 Environmental Studies: An Interdisciplinary Overview, ENV2101 Global Environmental Change, ENV2102 Environmental Law, Policy, Governance & Management, and ENV2103 Environmental and Public Health.
Students will develop good communication and writing skills needed to actively promote their cause, themselves and their expertise by reading the ENV1202 Communications for Environmental Studies module.
BES students may choose to specialise in either Environmental Biology hosted by FoS or Environmental Geography hosted by FASS in the 3rd and 4th years.
