About This Course
The department of Physics offers higher degree Programmes by research, on a part-time and full-time basis.
Our main objective is to produce research scientists, who have a deep and wide knowledge in Physics and to become a competent researcher who can conduct independent research in his or her chosen area.
What You'll Learn
Students are required to take six graduate level modules. This provides a graduate level foundation and prepares the student for research work. The modules offered vary year to year, please refer to the programme website for information on the modules.
Students has to take a Ph.D. qualifying examination to ensure that they are making headway in the right direction.
The research works which forms the largest single component culminate to a thesis will be examined. Students also undergo and pass an oral examination of their research work before a panel.
Student will work under the supervision of an academic staff member whose research interests are in the area proposed by the student.
The research areas in the department of Physics are as follows;
-Physics at the Nanoscale (Nanomaterials, Ion Beam Applications, Nuclear Microscopy, Nano photonics, Organic Nano devices, Surface Science, Graphene)
-Advanced Functional Materials (Magnetic, Optical, Organic Electronic and Spintronics Materials, Advanced atteries)
-Biophysics (Micro / Nano Structures, Complex Fluids, Molecular Motors, Single-Molecule Study) Nonlinear and Complex Systems
-Quantum Information and Technology
-Theoretical and Computational Condensed Matter Physics
-Theoretical Physics (General Relativity, Gravity, String Theory, Quantum Field Theory, Astrophysics)
