About This Course
The Diploma in Tamil Studies & Early Education aims to provide students with:
- Knowledge and skill-sets to design and deliver developmentally-appropriate curriculum for young children;
- Developmentally-appropriate teaching methods for children learning of the Tamil language;
- A strong foundation in writing and speech communication skills in the Tamil language required as a professional in the education sector ;
- Knowledge of the Tamil culture and heritage; and
- An understanding of diverse backgrounds of children and its implications for the design of Tamil language and early childhood care and education curriculum.
What You'll Learn
In the second and final year, they will continue their cultural journey through modules such as Introduction to Tamil Film & Performing Arts and Tamil Arts & the Contemporary Society. They will also learn about child development to design and deliver language and literacy programmes for young children.
In addition, they will get to broaden their perspectives as they embark on a cultural immersion programme locally or overseas to visit cultural and heritage sites. They will also get to apply what they have learnt in a three-month internship with a pre-school where they will teach Tamil MTL and literacy to young children.
Throughout their three years, they will be exposed to career and professional preparation modules that prepare them for the workplace.
