Most members of the public do not perform well when they invest in the markets on basic knowledge alone. Often this is because they chased after an investment that had already increase significantly in price; hoping for “buy high, sell higher” and not following the “buy low, sell high” rule. More important, these investors often buy without having done their research, and instead have invested based on rumor, stories, or what they learn from the media.

To pre-empt market cycles, investors should acquire the skills and knowledge to anticipate major global macro trends. This class starts with the foundation of structuring a core balanced portfolio and participants will learn how to tweak it in anticipation of changes in the business cycle by understanding sector rotation and industry analysis.
Participants will be guided step-by-step on how to read key economic statistics and where to find easy to construct charts in order to evaluate the health of an economy and look for signs of pending change. To sharpen their skills further, participants will learn how monetary, fiscal and currency policies affect the business cycle.
As a case study, the class will cover in detail the RMB Internationalization, which is considered one of the most, if not the most critical, development that will affect the global stock, bond and currency markets. We will discuss the background and see how this currency issue relates to the economic transformation of China which has important impact on the global supply chain and financial markets.
