About This Course
On completion of the DECCE-T, students should be equipped with:
(i) a firm understanding of child development and the principles of early childhood care and education for children from birth to eight years of age;
(ii) skills for observation and documentation of the development, abilities and needs of children, to plan responsive, inclusive and integrated curriculum in the context of diversity;
(iii) skills to apply knowledge of early childhood pedagogical approaches and children�s learning styles for designing a creative curriculum, enhanced with the application of technology, for a developmentally, individually, and culturally appropriate learning environment and experiences;
(iv) skills and disposition to build relationship, interact and participate with children, facilitate and evaluate children�s learning experiences based on the curriculum framework and desired outcomes of pre-school education;
(v) interpersonal skills to work collaboratively, build relationships and communicate professionally with colleagues, families and other stakeholders to support children�s holistic development; and
(vi) skills for critical and reflective thinking and the disposition to embrace professional values and attributes, to become a competent and professional practitioner.

Entry Requirements
Local Qualification:
- 5 GCE O-level credits including English (EL1) or other English Language Acceptable Alternatives (ELAA), e.g. a minimum band 5.5 in IELTS (Academic); OR
- GCE A-level or International Baccalaureate (IB); OR
- Local Polytechnic Diploma and obtained a GCE O-level credit in EL1 or other ELAA; OR
- Higher Nitec Certificate with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a GCE O-level credit in EL1 or other ELAA; OR
- Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Care & Education [ACECCE] (or acceptable equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 3.5 and 3 GCE O-level credits including EL1 or other ELAA
Foreign Qualification:
- Completed 10 years of formal education and passed state exam with credits in 5 different subjects including a Grade C6 in GCE O-level EL1 or other ELAA; OR
- Obtained a Degree with English as the medium of instruction from a state-recognised university
Note: In addition to the above local/foreign qualifications, a minimum of 1-year work experience is preferred.
