About This Course
To train students to fully grasp new employment opportunities in the field of data visualisation/story-telling and analytics. As data analyst or business analyst, they would use analytical tools to wrangle data, apply techniques to develop software to investigate leads, identify patterns and regularities in data, and offer solutions to address information needs of the organisation.
To equip students with the ability to:
• design effective visualisations based on principles of graphic design, visual art, perceptual psychology and cognitive science;
• synthesized visualisation components into interactive dashboards and storyboards that facilitate exploratory data analysis for business users;
• understand and apply the syntactical and algorithmic aspect of programming;
• use a programming language to code various algorithms starting from very basic algorithms to writing methods to perform data cleaning and complex algorithms;
• wrangle data in preparation for further downstream analytics purposes;
• understand essential machine learning algorithms such as decision trees, and regression models; and
• use a data analytic tool to assess and implement machine learning models.
