About This Course

This subject aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to design and implement a computer system in an organisation through an understanding of what comprises computer and operating systems.

What You'll Learn

This subject covers the concepts and operating principles of the main hardware components of a computer system. It will also provide students with the knowledge and skills to evaluate the merits of different contemporary operating systems. This subject enables students to understand how the interface between users and computer systems is achieved through hardware components, system utilities and programs. Topics covered include architecture and hardware components of a computer system, the basics of operating systems, the functions and goals of the main managers of operating systems as well as the design underlying some of the operating systems in practice.
