About This Course
This course aims to equip healthcare providers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively respond to emergencies involving cardiac arrest and foreign body airway obstruction, particularly in pre-hospital settings. It empowers participants with the confidence to execute basic life support maneuvers efficiently, thereby enhancing the survival rates of cardiac arrest patients in Singapore.
What You'll Learn
1. Learners will be equipped to list the elements of the Chain of Survival and describe the first responder's contribution to enhancing survival rates from pre-hospital cardiac arrests.
2. Learners will be adept at recognizing cardiac arrest indicators swiftly, leading to quicker Emergency Medical Services (EMS) notification and more immediate initiation of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) usage.
3. Learners will be competent in administering high-quality CPR to both adult and paediatric patients experiencing cardiac arrest, thereby boosting the chances of survival for both demographics.
4. Learners will be proficient in the safe and effective deployment of the AED on patients undergoing cardiac arrest.
5. Learners will be capable of detecting the signs and symptoms of foreign body airway obstruction in both conscious and unconscious adults and children, enabling timely intervention.
6. Learners will be skilled in executing procedures to clear foreign body airway obstructions in both conscious and unconscious adults and children, thus improving the likelihood of survival from choking incidents.

Entry Requirements
1. WPLN Literacy Level 4 or equivalent.
2. Applicants should not be suffering from medical conditions, physical disabilities or injuries that can be worsened by physical exertion.
