About This Course
Through the Certificate in Preschool Mother Tongue Language Teaching � Chinese (CPMTL-C), students will:
a) develop effective communication skills in the Chinese Language;
b) enhance their knowledge about the Chinese culture and heritage in Singapore;
c) acquire theoretical and practical knowledge about the teaching and learning of the Chinese Language for young children;
d) use the Nurturing Early Learners Framework for Mother Tongue Languages effectively for developing children�s Chinese language and literacy; and
e) enhance their skills in integrating music, dance, drama and children�s literature in teaching Chinese language, culture and heritage to young children.

The course consists of four 30-hour modules and a 75-hour practicum.
1. Grammar for Effective Communication in Chinese
2. Introduction to Chinese Culture & Children�s Literature
3. Teaching Chinese through the Arts for Young Children
4. Developing Chinese Language and Literacy for Young Children
5. Practicum � Chinese Language
Entry Requirements
Candidates need to meet 1 of the following criteria: a) Degree from a recognised university/local Polytechnic diploma, and min GCE�O� Level B4 grade for Chinese Language(CL) (Candidates are required to obtain a Chinese Language Acceptable Alternative recognized by ECDA if grade requirement not met);b) 5 GCE �O� Level credits including a min B4 grade for CL & 1 year of work experience;
c) DECCE-T in English or its equivalent & min GCE �O� Level B4 grade for CL;d) Advanced Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education (ACECCE), with a minimum GCE �O� Level B4 grade for CL; e) Higher Nitec in Early Childhood Education, with min GCE �O� level B4 grade for CL. Candidates under category (a) & (b) above, without DECCE-T or equivalent, would come under the Allied MTL Educator scheme.Prior to CPMTL-C course, they have to enrol into EC bridging modules (Chinese) consisting of Child Development 1, Child Development 2, and Principles and Practices in Early Education from DECCE-T(Chinese).
