What You'll Learn
Commodity trading firms play a crucial role in the global supply chain ecosystem, bridging gaps between producers, intermediaries and consumers. With a series of losses and allegations of fraud sending shockwaves across the globe, commodity trade finance has taken a big reputational hit. Much has been said about bank practices and governance structures of commodity companies and what could have been done to avoid the eventual fallout. In this course, we go back to basics, by first looking at how a typical commodity trading is set up, its business model, funding strategies (and how banks analyse commodity companies), credit management, and the importance of internal controls and governance.
Entry Requirements
Participants are required to have a good working knowledge of traditional trade financing such as Incoterms, trade documentations, documentary collection/ credit and trade financing instruments such as bills of exchange, letters of credit, demand guarantees, etc.
