Counselling Skills Training
About This Course
With the growing awareness of mental health and acceptance towards seeking help, the role of para-counsellor has become increasingly important. Beyond the conventional context of schools and social service agencies, para-counselling has seen an increase in its demand across the different community groups to corporations. Despite the increasing trend of adoption, not all individuals who are placed in a position to provide some form of para-counselling services are formally trained as certified counsellors as they are expected to play more of a supporting counsellor role complementing certified counsellors. This course will empower learners with the basics of para-counselling so that they can better support their clients through applying effective communication skills and appropriate counselling techniques.
At the end of the course, learners will be able to:
• describe the role of para-counsellor and its boundaries
• solicit informed consent and maintain the confidentiality of clients
• utilise effective communication skills to establish rapport and identify the root cause of issues
• engage with an individual using appropriate counselling techniques
