By the end of the course students should be able to
- demonstrate an understanding of the purpose and processes of ethical deliberation
- identify the ethical values at stake in big data and Artificial Intelligence
- analyze and appraise the ethical issues pertaining to big data and Artificial Intelligence
- formulate decisions pertaining to specific ethical issues raised by big data and Artificial Intelligence with evidence of balancing conflicting values to justify decisions
What You'll Learn
This course will explore the ways in which ethical values, analysis, and reflection can inform the development, promulgation, and use of novel biotechnologies, enabling students to critically engage with ethical nuances and tradeoffs that pervade the area. We will provide general tools for ethical analysis, then apply these tools to a topic of particular relevance to cutting-edge biotechnology: the use of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in the development of novel biotechnologies.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and may be required to show relevant work experience. Applicants with other qualifications and experience may be considered on a case by case basis, subject to approval by the Centre for Biomedical Ethics.
