About This Course
This course focuses on the chemistry of skin care and hair-care materials, science of perfumery, dermal pharmacology and cosmetic regulations that is applied in the areas of cosmetic raw materials, formulations, quality control and regulatory compliance. The laboratory sessions provide hands-on skills in formulating hair and skincare products, as well as skills on microbiological testing on cosmetic products.
It equips lab technicians or students with equivalent roles with the knowledge and skills required to undertake the new roles that include Senior Laboratory Technician/Technologist in Energy and Chemicals industry. This course prepares students for such roles through comprehensive theoretical and practical training.
What You'll Learn
(a) Provide students with broad-based science knowledge emphasising on the personal care sector, such as cosmetic raw materials, formulations, quality control and cosmetic regulations. Learners are introduced to the current concepts pertaining to the chemistry of hair-care and skincare materials, science of perfumery, dermal pharmacology and cosmetic regulations.
(b) Essential laboratory skills in formulations and evaluations of personal care products, as well as skills on microbiological testing on cosmetic products.

(b) Bachelor of Science in the relevant discipline.
(c) All applicants should preferably have working experience in the Personal Care industry or in a chemical laboratory.
(d) Recognition of Prior Learning: Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.
