Introduction to Commercial Floristry
About This Course
After completion of this course, learners should be able to:
- Identify and prepare the relevant tools and materials required for fresh flower arrangements according to commercial requests (table arrangements using foam, bouquets, floral stands)
- Recognise and select appropriate flowers, foliage and fillers for various floral designs
- Flexibly apply a variety of floral artistry techniques to different arrangements
- Professionally arrange fresh flower arrangements according to a range of commercial requests, specifications and market/client standards
What You'll Learn
Various foundational skills such as creating ribbon bows, matching accessories and wrapping materials, arranging with floral foam, arranging bouquets, floral stands will be taught, along with the relevant safety procedures. Candidates will also learn how to identify and select appropriate floral materials according to their market names.
Course learners will be equipped with a variety of floral arrangement skills suitable for entry-level jobs and positions in floral retail outlets, wholesale floral establishments, online florists, hotels in-house florist that offers floral arrangement services.
Beyond providing the base knowledge in floristry required for aspiring florists and floral business owners, the short-term, intensive nature of the course makes it suitable for a wide range of audiences: career-switchers, or working individuals in various industries that wish to augment their existing skillsets for cross-disciplinary purposes (e.g. Hospitality, F&B décor, etc) and hobbyists who wishes to certify their pre-existing skills.
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirement for the course is as follows:
1) Assumed attitudes, skills and knowledge
Learners are assumed to be:
o Able to listen to and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the
Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 4
o Able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to
Employability Skills System Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 4
o Able to use Numeracy skills equivalent to the Employability Skills
System Workplace Numeracy (WPN) Level 4
o Able to operate a smartphone with basic functions
2) Required years of experience in relevant domain
Learners are not required to have any experience or relevant domain knowledge of floristry to attend the course. However, learners should be able to perform a narrow range of basic and routine work activities according to instructions under a predictable work context.
