An Introduction to Sustainability - the Why, What and How
About This Course
The course provides learners with the multi-faceted basic knowledge of sustainability.
With the answers to the ‘who’ and ‘when’ becoming obvious to mankind, this short course introduces the ‘why’ so that learners understand the urgent needs and basic environmental sciences (e.g., climate change), the ‘what’ so that the specific targets are clear, and the ‘how’ so that learners can start to identify the types of approach in incorporating sustainability elements into their professional work.
Participants will discuss the ‘why’, ‘what’ and ‘how’ in the context of existing major movements including the Singapore Green Plan, United Nations SDGs, and Global Reporting Initiative.
Learners including technical and corporate staff will see how his or her ‘subject of interest’ (SOI such as products, services, companies and the Earth) can be measured under the three pillars of sustainability – environmental, social and economic. They will therefore be able to start formulating action tasks to enhance the sustainability of their SOI.
Learners who are educators will be able to better curate contents and weave the implications and applications of sustainability into existing curriculums for their learners.
Each participant will take away an action plan for consideration at his or her workplace.
The course will also be informative on a personal level for doing our small part for the future generations
