About This Course
Post-Diploma Certificate in Principles and Science of Perioperative Nursing (PDC1 of Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Perioperative) aims to prepare the learners as follows:
1. Understanding the contemporary principles and processes of cellular injury and inflammation which the fundamental causes of most diseases are, followed by an in-depth study of systemic pathophysiology, clinical presentations and complications of disease states. In addition, study key concepts in pharmacology which will form the foundation to understanding the rationale for pharmacological management of patients with complex health problems.
2. Develops skills and knowledge in history taking and physical examination by integrating assessment findings to make appropriate clinical decisions.
3. Gives an overview of workplace safety and health issues and nursing practice in the operating theatre including operating theatre design, sterilization, pre-operative preparation and client education; acquire relevant knowledge and skills, and provides an overview of the philosophy, roles, legal and ethical considerations pertaining to perioperative nursing.
4. Gives an overview of the concepts underlying the psychosocial needs of a patient and family in perioperative nursing practice, sub-discipline in perioperative nursing and surgical procedures such as anaesthesiology, nursing management of polytrauma within the perioperative setting

Entry Requirements
• Diploma in Nursing from a local Polytechnic or an equivalent qualification;
• Singapore Nursing Board registration;
• 2 years post registration experience with a minimum of 1 year in the discipline of study.
