Diploma in Applied Management for the Future Workplace (DMFW)
About This Course
1.	Course Rationale	a) The fourth industrial revolution has brought about the New Economy driven by technology and digitalisation. As the workforce is being trained to develop new technological capabilities, there is also a need to build generic skills and competencies (GSCs) that complement technology.
These include strong communication, problem solving, interpersonal and digital literacy skills to solve problems and grow productivity. The GSCs help every individual adapt to new job demands and bring relevant skills across different jobs.
b) While many training providers offer short courses
in generic skills, there is a gap in terms of an
extensive curriculum for GSCs training.
c) The Diploma in Applied Management for the Future Workplace (DMFW) is a part-time diploma course that focuses on GSCs. It is targeted at frontline and operational staff aspiring to team leadership roles such as team leaders and supervisors. The curriculum would benefit this target group as they need to understand multiple functional areas and know how to leverage the expertise of people with diverse skill sets, in the context of the New Economy.
d) Current Diploma courses in People Management focus on theories in leadership, people management and managerial approaches. There is currently none that combines people management and generic skills and competencies (GSCs) which are crucial for the New Economy. The DMFW aims to bridge the current gap in Diploma course offerings for the CET audience and provide a more extensive curriculum for Generic Skills and Competencies training.
