About This Course

Objectives
• Apply various micro-skills such as building positive relationship, attentive listening, paraphrasing, and summarizing.
• Examine the knowledge and understanding of common factors in counselling.
• Identify the various counselling approaches which are generally equivalent in terms of efficacy and explain the common therapeutic factors such as the therapeutic relationship, shared worldview, client expectations for change, extra-therapeutic factors, and techniques.
• Identify the foundation of the coaching processes and apply the knowledge of individual and group coaching.
• Apply counselling and coaching skills to a wide range of life situations including educational, career and interests.
• Integrate and apply concepts and skills drawn from various theoretical orientations to help clients.
• Develop, recommend, & implement courses of action involving guidance, counselling and conciliation for individuals and groups.

What You'll Learn

This module is part of the Post-Diploma Certificate in Counselling and Coaching.

The aim of this module is: (1) to provide the foundation of counselling theories and practical counselling skills to be applied in a variety of situations and relationships in the counselling process from the initial contact to rapport building, intervention and termination; (2) to provide the foundation on coaching processes, the function of coaching for the individual and outcomes; and (3) to plan, facilitate and manage group dynamics in group coaching and assisting the groups in defining their direction and developing solutions.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should possess at least a local diploma qualification or equivalent from recognised institution.

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted will have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.
