Counselling and Communication
About This Course
Topics covered include the theoretical approaches, the counselling process, ethics and confidentiality, and the interpersonal skills required to conduct a session in individual or group settings.
What You'll Learn
This module is designed to reinforce the concept that counselling is a special relationship built on confidentiality, mutual respect and open communication with the intention to help people identify their problems, and to achieve resolution where possible. Through the counselling process, students will embark on a fulfilling and satisfying journey of self-discovery and be introduced to the professional issues in a helping relationship.
Entry Requirements
O Levels
• 3 relevant passes; and
• At least 1 year relevant work experience
Higher Nitec
• GPA ≥ 2.0; or
• GPA ≥ 1.5 and at least 1 year relevant work experience
Nitec
• GPA ≥ 3.5; or
•GPA ≥ 3.0 and at least 1 year relevant work
Higher Nitec in Technology / Services
• GPA ≥ 2.0 and at least 1 year relevant work experience
Nitec in Technology / Services
• GPA ≥ 3.5 and at least 1 year relevant work experience
WSQ
• Relevant WSQ Advanced Certificate (or higher); and
• At least 1 year relevant work experience; and
• Level 6 WSQ Workplace Literacy SOA and Workplace Numeracy SOA
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 2 years of relevant working experience. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted will have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.
