Digital Electronics & Applications - Part of Modular Certificate in Electrical & Electronics Fundamentals (DEMH)
About This Course
On completion of the module, the students should be able to:
1	Convert numbers between decimal, binary and hexadecimal number systems.
2	Unsigned and Signed numbers.
3	Interpret a problem statement and generate its truth table.
4	Derive the SOP expression from a truth table.
5	Draw Karnaugh map as a tool to simplify and design logic circuits.
6	Design logic circuit using AND, OR and NOT gates.
7	Implement the logic circuit using universal gates of NAND and NOR gates.
8	Understand the trigger operation of the JK, D flip-flops and gated D latch and SR latch.
9	Monostable multivibrator operation & application.
10	An overview of the differences between asynchronous and synchronous counters.
11	Design counters using Counter ICs 74HC192/193.
12	Connect multistage counters using Counter ICs 74HC192/193.
13	Application of counter – Accumulative counting & Frequency division.
14	Design an application project and test its operation using circuit maker.
15	Implement hardware construction on the design and ensure it is operational.
Learners could apply the skills taught in this module in electrical and electronics areas where digital applications are needed. Applications can be in manufacturing, maintenance, operations, production etc.
