About This Course

On completion of the module, the students should be able to:
describe the characteristics of an ideal operational amplifier,
analyze and perform calculations for closed-loop voltage gain and output voltage of inverting amplifiers and non-inverting amplifiers,
sketch input and output waveforms and transfer characteristics of inverting and non-inverting amplifiers,
design and analyze summing amplifier and voltage follower for simple applications,
sketch output waveforms for open-loop voltage comparators and Schmitt Triggers,
describe the properties of differential and instrumentation amplifiers and perform calculations for various types of voltage gain and common-mode rejection ratio,
compare and contrast an integrator and a differentiator,
design, analyze and sketch waveforms for an astable multivibrator using a 555 timer IC,
describe the conditions of oscillation,
analyze and design Wien-Bridge oscillator,
describe the properties of Hartley & Colpitts Oscillators,
describe the characteristics of low-pass, high-pass, band-pass and band-stop filters,
compare and contrast passive and active filters,
perform calculations and sketch frequency response of low-pass, high-pass and band-pass filters,
describe the characteristics of Butterworth, Chebyshev and Bessels filters,
design 2nd-order filters based on desired quality factor and for simple applications.

Learners could apply the skills taught in this module in electrical and electronics areas where analog applications are needed. Applications can be in manufacturing, maintenance, operations, production etc.
