About This Course

On completing the module, the students should be able to use a CAD/CAM system to:
A. Draw and modify electronic circuit schematic.
B. Place and route printed circuit boards using manual and automatic routing.
C. Generate Bill of Materials reports, Gerber files with manufacturing data for PCB fabrication and assembly.
D. Create library parts from PCB fabrication parameters and datasheets.

What You'll Learn

Electrical & Electronic Drawing & CAD - Part of Modular Certificate in Engineering Drafting & Design (Elective) (DEMH) is a 60 hrs module. In this module students are introduced to the concepts of circuit design and printed circuit board (PCB) layout using a modern computer based electronic design automation (EDA) package. Students are taught the principles of PCB production starting from schematic capture through to PCB layout post-processing and library parts creation. It prepares the student for future project design and implementation. The module adopts a completely hands-on approach where students are required to complete laboratory exercises. These exercises aim to train the students to be competent in using the computer as a productive tool for electronic circuit design and manufacturing. Students will learn the rules of electronic schematic drawing and printed circuit board design.
