CVE6009 Deep Excavation and Tunnelling
About This Course
This module covers the common types of retaining walls and the design considerations in deep excavation and tunnelling. In deep excavation, this module covers the roles of different components, the method of excavation, the modes of failure, the need for ground improvement, the instrumentation to monitor the system performance, the associated ground movements, and impact assessment on adjacent structures and utilities. In tunnelling, this module covers rock tunnelling, soft ground tunnelling, mixed phase tunnelling, tunnelling with TBM, mined tunnelling, the risks involved in tunnelling and trenchless technology, and segmental tunnel lining design. The last topic is on soil nailing and ground anchor. It covers the design considerations, the mode of failure and the testing methods.
