About This Course
• Understand the importance of pressure relief systems and their key principles
• Learn how to select and size appropriate relief devices (e.g. Pressure safety valves)
• Learn how to calculate flare header thermal radiation zones & purge rates
• Understand the flare system equipment operations & maintenance
• Understand the zero flare principles
What You'll Learn
The training course introduces the participants the specific detailed guidelines for evaluating a relief system, including determining the applicability of overpressure scenarios, required relief rates, and relief device capacity. Flare system calculations such as flare thermal radiation zone & purge gas rates is also included.
It is applicable to petrochemical facilities, gas plants, liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, and oil and gas production facilities. Pressure vessels and other equipment require relief devices to provide overpressure protection to prevent conditions that may cause serious injuries to personnel, costly mechanical damage, and environmental releases.
Topics
Causes of Overpressure and Their Relieving Rates
• Overpressure Protection Philosophy
• Determination of Individual Relieving Rates
• Individual Overpressure Causes and Their Relieving Rates
• Guidance on Vacuum Relief
• Vapour Depressuring
• Relief System Design Documentation
• Flare Header Design Documentation
• Special Considerations for Individual PRDs
Disposal Systems
• Fluid Properties That Influence Selection and Design of Disposal Systems.
• System Design Load
• System Arrangement
• Piping
• Disposal to a Lower-pressure System
• Disposal to Flare
• Disposal to Atmosphere
• Design Details for Seal and Knockout Drums
