What You'll Learn
There is a rise in mental health conditions worldwide, including Singapore. According to a mental health survey conducted by the Institute of Mental Health in 2016, 1 in 7 people in Singapore have experienced a mental health condition in their lifetime. Mental health conditions exert significant impacts on all aspects of life, such as academic and work performances as well as relationships with others.
In recent years, numerous scientific studies have pointed to the important roles of food and nutrition in preventing and managing mental illnesses. In this module, learners will be introduced to the concepts of mental wellness and its relationship with nervous system. They will examine the impacts of food, nutrition and diet on the onset and severity of mental illnesses.
By the end of the module, learners will be tasked to create dietary care plans to prevent and maintain mental wellness for specific groups of people.
