By the end of the course, participants should have:
(a) Basic understanding of the fundamental principles of Torts, Contracts and Evidence (Common Law + Civil Law perspectives)
(b) The skills to analyse a legal problem, identify the relevant facts and issues, and apply the law to resolve the dispute
(c) The ability to organise and present a coherent legal argument
What You'll Learn
This course is part of the Graduate Certificate in International Arbitration (GCIA), aimed at lawyers and non-lawyers seeking to practise as arbitrators. It introduces candidates to the basic principles of Torts, Contracts and Evidence. The main topics covered in Torts are negligence, nuisance, vicarious liability and general defences. The main topics covered in Contracts are contractual formation, terms & termination and remedies. The main topics covered in Evidence are general concepts of evidence, admissibility and privilege.
