Financial Capability and Asset Building (FCAB) - Social Work [Intermediate]
About This Course
This course fills a current competency gap of social workers in working with financially vulnerable clients and aims to enable social workers to integrate Financial Capability and Asset Building (FCAB) knowledge and skills in social work interventions to be more effective in empowering low-income individuals/families to enhance their financial well-being and achieve sustainable goals. This gap in knowledge is ascertained through a systematic approach of training needs analysis and focus group discussions with social workers in Singapore. The FCAB training curriculum was developed through a series of pilot testing in the community by the National University of Singapore, Next Age Institute (NAI). Feedback on training content and methodology were also gathered from key stakeholders through a Resource Committee chaired by NAI, comprising Ministry of Social and Family Development, National Council of Social Service, Singapore Association of Social Workers, Institute of Financial Literacy and key Family Service Centres. This ensures that development of the FCAB training curriculum is robust and relevant to the social work profession. The training curriculum has been successfully developed and stakeholders have requested that the FCAB training be rolled out nationwide to contribute to continuing professional education of social workers. The Singapore Association of Social Workers has endorsed FCAB training for social workers as a continuing professional education for social workers in Singapore.
