About This Course
Course Objective
The objective of the course is to equip learners with the skills and knowledge to promote successful ageing by understanding the ageing process, emotional needs of the older persons and the communication skills like physical attending skills, active listening skills and empathy required when engaging with the older persons.
This course is administered by Hua Mei Training Academy, an initiative of Tsao Foundation.
What You'll Learn
There are two (2) learning units (LUs) in this course.
LU1: Discuss ageing process and emotional needs of older person to support successful ageing by exploring our own barriers and common mistakes in communication.
LU2: Understand and engage clients using different communication styles, Iceberg Metaphor and effective communication skills including active listening, Empathetic Reflection, appreciation and affirmation skills.
Entry Requirements
Those who are 21 years old and above with at least 3 years of working experience in any industry. The required skills and knowledge for this course are as follows:
● Education:
● be able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) Literacy Level 4
● be able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) Literacy Level 4
● be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills System (ESS) Numeracy Level 4
● have basic languages / dialects relevant to the target client group.
● Have prior working experience with older adults will be an added advantage
● Be motivated to learn and have positive attitude towards work and commitments.
● Have interest in community and social work.
