About This Course

To equip caregivers with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively manage NG/PEG tube feeding for adult patients at home. It also aims to empower caregivers to provide optimal care, ensuring the well-being and nutritional needs of patients with NG/PEG are met in a home setting.

1. Understand the purpose and importance of NG/PEG tube feeding
a. Explain the indications for NG/PEG tube feeding
b. Recognize the importance of proper nutrition in the recovery and well-being of patients.
2. Demonstrate competence in NG/PEG tubes handling and maintenance
a. Perform proper hand hygiene and infection control measures.
b. Understand the principles of securing and stabilizing the NG/PEG tubes.
3. Administer and monitor feeding
a. Prepare and administer enteral nutrition according to the prescribed plan.
b. Monitor and assess signs of complications or intolerance during feedings.
c. Troubleshoot common issues related to NG/PEG tube feeding.
4. Ensure patient comfort and safety
a. Provide proper oral care and hygiene for patients with NG/PEG tubes.
b. Recognize and address potential complications such as aspiration and tube dislodgement.
c. Implement measures to ensure patient comfort during the feeding process
5. Communicate effectively with healthcare providers
a. Identify signs and changes in patient’s condition that require escalation.
