About This Course
The modern legal sector is much bigger than just private practice. One of the major growth areas in the legal industry today is the explosion of in-house counsel, that is, lawyers that exclusively service a single organisation. In-house counsel are today in demand among many organisations, including multinational corporations, government departments, and financial institutions.
Being an in-house counsel requires a different skillset and perspective from being an advocate and solicitor. In-house counsel need to work much more closely with their clients, possess a deeper understanding of the client’s business, and also be prepared to work in multi-disciplinary teams of experts from other allied disciplines.
This course aims to provide a roadmap to the key skills and considerations in taking up the role of an in-house counsel. Participants will be taken through an introduction of what it means to be an in-house counsel, and gain an understanding of the functions provided by in-house counsel and their relationship with internal stakeholders and external counsel. Participants will leave the course equipped with tools to identify and tailor the skills and competencies specific to the requirements of their role and/or industry.
