About This Course
At the end of the course, participants will:
1. Have good knowledge of major rules of sales contract law in China;
2. Understand the Chinese private international law in relation to contract;
3. Appreciate the key differences between Chinese and Anglo-Singaporean(sales) contract law;
4. Have good knowledge of major rules set in the General Part of the Chinese Contract Act 1999; and
5. Understand how to make use of the differences in (sales) contract law for the interest of a hypothetical client in a particular commercial context.
What You'll Learn
This course is offered under the Faculty of Law's Graduate Coursework Programmes in Corporate & Financial Services Law.
This course will provide participants with a comparative perspective on selected issues in contract law. It will compare the main principles of contract at common law and that in Chinese law. It will also examine the Chinese contract law perspectives on scope of application, judicial interpretation, formation, performance, modification and assignment of contracts as well as liability for breach of contract. At the end of the course, participants will be able to understand the Chinese contract law framework and appreciate the differences at common law and that in Chinese law.
