About This Course
At the end of the course, participants should be able to:
1. Demonstrate a legal and social understanding of the different conceptions of, and issues related to, CSR and sustainability in the context of political economy;
2. Describe and explain the different tools for promoting sustainability and critically evaluate their effectiveness in different jurisdictions; and
3. Initiate and advise on legal and policy reforms and provide advice to a variety of clients including companies, NGOs and governments.

This course provides a comparative and critical analysis of why and how six corporate mechanisms - (i) sustainability reporting; (ii) board gender diversity; (iii) constituency directors; (iv) stewardship codes; (v) directors' duty to act in the company's best interests; and (vi) liability on companies, shareholders and directors - have been or can be used to promote corporate social responsibility in the Asian and AngloAmercian jurisdictions. It equips participants with useful, practical skillsets on how to advise clients on CSR issues and with a strong foundation to critically engage with sustainability matters that will be important to them in practice.
