About This Course

On completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Define the concept of UDL and explain its key tenets and criteria.
2. Illustrate UDL principles using realistic examples from the early childhood field.
3. Apply UDL principles in their daily work as teachers.
4. Evaluate the evidence for the effectiveness of UDL with a focus on Finnish preschools and compare/contrast this with Singapore’s efforts, particularly where it pertains to socioemotional and educational (academic) outcomes.

What You'll Learn

This module will explore the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the early childhood sphere. Students will learn what differentiation is and how it may be made manifest across a range of physical, social and academic/cognitive expectations. They will also learn to evaluate their preschools and classrooms according to UDL criteria, plus apply multiple means of engagement, representation and action/expression in their lessons and activities.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for Certificate in Inclusive Practice (Chinese) (CIP(CL)), candidates need to have met the following criteria:
a) Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education – Teaching (DECCE-T) (Chinese) or it equivalent, and
b) CL L2 certified teachers who have been practicing for at least one year.
