- Identify ethical issues and ethical values pertaining to medical decision-making
- Understand the core legal principles pertaining to medical decision-making
- Apply ethical analytical skills and weigh up competing values to support recommendations when reviewing a case
- Engage in critical reflection on issues pertaining to medical decision-making
What You'll Learn
This module will explore the core legal and ethical issues in clinical decision-making in clinical practice. No experience in law or bioethics is needed. The topics covered include consent, mental capacity, treatment refusal, end of life, role of family in decision-making, limits of parental authority in medical decision-making, lasting powers of attorney, advance directives, advance care planning, and best interests decision-making.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and may be required to show relevant work experience Applicants with other qualifications and experience may be considered on a case by case basis, subject to approval by the Centre for Biomedical Ethics
