About This Course
Course Objective
The objective of this course is to equip learners with the skills and knowledge about the fundamentals of the types of Dementia, palliative care and the need for Person-Centred Care in supporting persons with Dementia. Also, with the use of effective communication, to recognise the behavioural change, meet ADL needs and provide suitable therapeutic activities to engage Persons with dementia. Not to be missed, learners will also pick up skills on self-care and support for caregivers in their care journey.
This course is administered by Hua Mei Training Academy, an initiative of Tsao Foundation.
What You'll Learn
There are four (4) learning units (LUs) in this course.
LU1: Understand types of dementia, palliative care approach and the need for person-centred care in supporting persons with dementia.
LU2: Meeting ADL needs and provide suitable therapeutic activities for persons with dementia.
LU3: Recognise the impact of changed behaviour and the use of effective communication techniques when interacting with persons with dementia.
LU4: Self-care and caregiver support in the care journey supporting persons with dementia.
Entry Requirements
Those who are 21 years old and above with at least 3 years of working experience in any industry. The required skills and knowledge for this course are as follows:
● Education:
● be able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) Literacy Level 4
● be able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) Literacy Level 4
● be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills System (ESS) Numeracy Level 4
● have basic languages / dialects relevant to the target client group.
● Have prior working experience with older adults will be an added advantage
● Be motivated to learn and have positive attitude towards work and commitments.
● Have interest in community and social work.
